Job Purpose

To lead and manage instrumentation engineering activities in greenfield and brownfield projects for chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities, ensuring adherence to technical standards, timelines, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design & Engineering
    1. Develop and review P&IDs, IO lists, hook-up drawings, loop diagrams, cable schedules, and control panel layouts.
    2. Comprehensive budget preparation.
    3. Evaluate and select suitable field instruments (flow, pressure, temperature, level) and control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA).
    4. Interface with vendors, EPC contractors, and consultants for instrumentation design packages.
    5. Ensure adherence to standards such as ISA, IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), ATEX, and applicable GMP requirements.

 

  1. Procurement Support
    1. Prepare RFQs and technical bid analysis for instrumentation items and control systems.
    2. Provide technical support during procurement, vendor evaluation, and order finalization.
    3. Review vendor documents and drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements.

 

  1. Project Execution & Management
    1. Schedule and execute instrumentation engineering activities in alignment with project timelines and budgets.
    2. Prepare and review technical specifications, datasheets, and control philosophies.
    3. Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, EHS).
    4. Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of instrumentation systems.
    5. Conduct FAT/SAT and ensure smooth handover to operations.

 

  1. 4. Compliance & Documentation
    1. Ensure compliance with industry regulations (GMP, USFDA, EHS, etc.).
    2. Prepare and maintain project documentation including URS, Qualification, and Validation protocols.
    3. Collaborate with QA teams for data integrity and system design compliance like 21 CFR.

 

  1. 5. Team & Vendor Coordination
    1. Supervise site contractors during instrumentation installation and commissioning.
    2. Train and guide junior engineers and technicians.
    3. Ensure timely communication with vendors and stakeholders to resolve technical issues.

 

  1. Key Skills & Competencies
    1. In-depth knowledge of instrumentation and automation systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA).
    2. Strong understanding of process control, safety instrumentation, and validation requirements.
    3. Hands-on experience with Computer System Validation (CSV) processes and documentation.
    4. Excellent project management, communication, and coordination skills.
    5. Proficiency in engineering tools (AutoCAD, etc.) and SAP PS Modules.
    6. Awareness of hazardous area classifications (Ex, ATEX, IS).
